Care Award
Show That You Care
The ASA Care Award recognizes outstanding corporate social responsibility initiatives among ASA member companies and affiliated chapters. Corporate social responsibility initiatives can encompass policies, programs, or specific projects within companies and with external partners.
A panel of corporate social responsibility experts will select winners in five categories: one staffing firm with less than $15 million in annual sales, one staffing firm with $15 million–$100 million in annual sales, one staffing firm with more than $100 million in annual sales, one associate member (a company that provides products or services to the staffing industry), and one ASA-affiliated chapter.
Corporate social responsibility initiatives submitted for consideration could involve, but are not limited to, one or more of the following components:
- Employees (e.g., wages, benefits, training and professional development, diversity practices, health and safety procedures, and family-friendly policies)
- Clients (e.g., consumer and community engagement)
- Suppliers (e.g., labor practices, environmental impact, and diversity)
- Core business practices (e.g., products and services, legal compliance, and innovation)
- Finance (e.g., investments and savings)
- Environment (e.g., energy use, buildings, vehicles, construction practices, travel, and recycling)
- Governance (e.g., policies, standards, board diversity, stakeholder engagement, and reporting)
- Philanthropy (e.g., corporate community involvement, employee volunteer programs, contributions, or involvement with Preparing Tomorrow's Work Force—an ASA program that provides career alternatives to at-risk students)

2011 Winners
At Staffing World® 2011, the American Staffing Association bestowed ASA Care Awards to three staffing companies, one industry supplier, and an ASA-affiliated chapter. The awards recognize outstanding corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives—business processes that produce an overall positive effect on society—among ASA member companies, associate members, and affiliated chapters.
A panel of independent CSR specialists selected the winners in five categories.
Firms With More Than $100 Million in Annual Sales
In honor of reaching 25 years in business, QPS Employment Group donated $25,000 to several organizations around the country—particularly in communities where the company has offices. The company specifically focused on donating to organizations that were hit hardest by the recession, including food pantries and shelters.
Firms With $15 Million to $100 Million in Annual Sales
In 2010, Winter Wyman Financial Contracting participated in 31 community development events, ranging from fulfilling the holiday wish lists of 50 children assisted by the Boston Department of Children and Families to holding several clothing and toy drives throughout the year. The firm also continued its tradition of awarding holiday donations to local nonprofits; the Boston area's Franciscan Hospital for Children used the firm's $10,000 donation to renovate its occupational therapy room.
Firms With Less Than $15 Million in Annual Sales
DRA Recruiting & Staffing Solutions created a "Growing Greener" campaign that focused on several environmentally friendly initiatives, including eliminating paper use whenever possible, implementing a recycling program at each office, and encouraging employees to reduce the amount of plastic bottled water used at the firm to reduce the size of its carbon footprint. DRA estimates it achieved a 65% reduction of waste companywide.
Associate Member
Assurance Agency Ltd. established the ACT program, an employee-driven initiative designed to "inspire hope in local communities by becoming actively involved and developing meaningful partnerships with charitable organizations." The company's employees have volunteered some 9,000 labor hours at various events and donated nearly $35,000 toward a fund to give scholarships to working students in need.
ASA-Affiliated Chapter
The Minnesota Recruiting and Staffing Association held a free jobs summit and partnered with Dress for Success to hold a clothing drive during the event to collect business apparel donations for Minnesotans in need. The association collected more than 1,000 items for low-income job seekers.
